Like corona, changes are also being seen in the monkey fever virus, due to which the existing vaccine is ineffective in preventing this deadly disease. Also, this vaccine has not yet been approved by the World Health Organization (WHO). In such a situation, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) based in New Delhi has decided to search for a new vaccine.
According to ICMR, recently new cases of monkey fever were reported in some areas of Kerala and Karnataka. The Pune-based National Institute of Virology (NIV) team isolated the virus from the samples of these patients and then studied it through genome sequencing. A senior scientist at NIV Pune said that the genome analysis showed slight changes in its structure. This was no less than a surprise, because such signs had never been found before.
After this, scientists started analyzing 48 genome samples taken from patients between 1957 and 2017 and found that 2.24% of the genomes were found to be very severe and recorded genetic changes.
Early symptoms of severe headache, chills
- The disease usually occurs in the southern part of the country.
- Its initial symptoms are severe headache, chills.
- There is also a possibility of bleeding from the nose, throat, gums and intestines for four days.
- The death rate of this disease ranges from three to five percent.
- Monkey fever occurs mainly in monkeys and humans.
- The infection spreads only to people who handle infected or dead monkeys.

When the NIV team studied the isolated virus, then like Corona, they have also discovered the vaccine formula for this virus. Based on this formula, new effective vaccines will soon be manufactured in collaboration with private pharma companies.
500 people die every year
Actually, Monkey Fever i.e. Kyasanur forest disease is very serious and fatal. There is no medical treatment for it yet. Years ago, this infectious disease was confirmed through a sick monkey in the Kyasanur forest of Karnataka. Since then every year 400 to 500 people are dying due to this infection.
